Concept Plan for an existing landscape remodel in a Vancouver
neighborhood. North is left. With a
large expanse of concrete and little landscaping in back and a broken
concrete walk in front, this garden needed a complete makeover that would
unify the entire garden, connect it to its architecture and site. A
"unit" was established based on the architecture and existing concrete
patio that was distributed over the entire garden in differing ways.
Two units were cut from the existing patio to minimize the expanse of the
patio and allow planting to interrupt the hardscape expanse. A
little retreat was created in the side yard as an escape. A
courtyard was incorporated into the front garden in order for the owner to
sit outdoors in an old-fashioned "porch concept". The courtyard
considered views to the street and privacy.
